Four Reasons I Started a Bullet Journal on Growing Vegetables

Over the years, I’ve read numerous articles and books about the best practices for growing vegetables. However, trying to keep track of all the information I learned forced me to learn the importance of developing and documenting gardening strategies that fit my needs and the necessity of keeping all my information in one place. So, I decided to start a bullet journal! It’s not only useful, but I also found the creation process enjoyable and simple. Recording this information has prevented me from feeling overwhelmed during the growing seasons. Instead of listing fruits and vegetables alphabetically, I focused on the ones that thrived for me and brought me joy and a sense of accomplishment. This streamlined approach has made growing food much more satisfying. Here are four reasons for starting a bullet journal about growing fruits and vegetables.
Organization
I have compiled all my vegetable-growing information into one book, making it easier to succeed and reducing stress about what to do during the growing seasons. By consolidating my gardening notes into a single journal, I can follow a clear plan and minimize the time I spend figuring out which tasks to tackle and when.

Quick Reference Planting Calendars
Keeping calendar entries in my journal allows me to track the best times to begin each plant’s growing journey. I record the appropriate times to fertilize, water, harvest, and replant based on my planting zone. Since temperatures can fluctuate, I also note what I did the previous year to determine if I need to adjust the timing for starting seedlings indoors and the optimal times for outdoor planting.
Companion Planting and Optimal Growing Conditions
I have limited growing space and wanted to plant as many vegetables as possible. Compiling a list of each vegetable’s companions and enemies accelerated the planting process and created a favorable growing environment.

Tracking My Gardening Journey
I included pictures of my vegetables, including one taken just before harvesting. As my garden flourishes and my knowledge expands, these images will serve as a testament to my evolving food journey. Additionally, creating and decorating my unique bullet journal was very relaxing and allowed me to dig out some of my old art supplies from my scrapbooking days. These are just a few reasons to start a gardening bullet journal.
